Ahh Alaska!
Once you have been there, you can never get it out of your mind. You can only
scratch the surface of Alaska, no matter how many times you go there. It is huge!
In fact, many places in Alaska can only be accessed by float plane.
I feel in love with Alaska when I went there. It is a land of very friendly people,
incredible scenery and interesting towns.
Seward, Alaska is a great place to see glaciers, bears and killer whales! There are
lots of tour vessels to take you out to see the glaciers and wildlife. It is served by
the Alaskan Railway, so you can easily get there from Anchorage.
Homer is another wonderful town in Alaska. Perhaps, it is my favorite. The Homer
Spit is lots of fun to explore. There are lots of very interesting shops and
restaurants. It is also where you can book a kayak trip in the area. That is lots of
fun!
Talkeena is the greatest little town on earth. This is the place where you can catch
the "Flag Train". This is a train that goes from Talkeetna to Hurricane. This train
carries people who live in the back country. The train stops in the middle of no
where and drops off the rider and their supplies. Then the train resumes the trip. If
a person in the back country wants to catch the train, they simply wait for the train
to come down the track and flag it down. It is a great ride, because you get a real
sense of Alaska and the real people of Alaska.
Denali National Park is amazing. In this park you can see Grizzly Bears, Wolves,
Caribou and lots of other wild life. The scenery is stunning. Be sure to go on the
guided hikes with the naturalists. I learned so much doing that. If you are lucky,
you will get a clear day and see the mountain, Denali (aka Mt. McKinley). This
20,320 foot mountain is so large it is said to create its own weather!
If you get the chance to go to Alaska, go! You will not regret it
